As planned in Maharashtra , it also caters to out of school youth., by opening the training facilities to them and helping them to assist in community services. This becomes a step in their starting their own enterprises. This function is aided by the network of resource groups planned for the prevocational schools. |
• Delivery Channel for New Technology:
The school technical wing in a remote area also acts as a channel for delivery of new technology. Because of the equipment and staff, and their use in the services to the community, they are good receptors for introducing new technology developed elsewhere, particularly by the national laboratories etc. |
• A New Work Culture:
Industry has a work culture of which the important constituents are the monitoring of performance indicators, to ensure competitiveness, cost control and planning. The customer is considered supreme, and every effort is made to satisfy the market need. The economics and productivity are key considerations. Under such circumstances, hard and effective work and invention are encouraged and dignity of labour is recognized.
It should therefore be clear that this is not a vocational course for students who do not wish to go for higher studies. It is an integral part of general education, that helps students to absorb the other subjects better and to apply that knowledge with greater self confidence. It is for this reason, that the prevocational course is ultimately to be extended to all secondary schools. Also in any school introducing this now, all students will get this program and not just one stream. |
